Chena River Breakup

An almost-ice-free Chena.

Elisabeth and I had a chance to get down to the Chena River on one of its final icy days. It was a slow breakup this year because winter’s-end was unusually warm. She enjoyed seeing the few remaining pieces floating downstream.

The Chena River

Posing on the banks of the Chena.

Elisabeth spent a little time with Daddy not long ago at the boat launch near our home. I remember her being very proud that she knew we were at “the Chena River.” Also referred to as “Daddy’s River” because the kids have to cross it to get to my office.

Breaking the Ice

Helpers in the yard.

I just realized I hadn’t posted a number of pictures from the early Spring. Here Hannah and Stephen attempt to crush the last few pieces of ice in the yard. They felt this was a big help to daddy – who wasn’t planning to do anything but let them melt.

I have glasses?

A typical day with Stephen.

One day after church, Stephen asked if he could wear my glasses. He seemed to get a real kick out of bounding through the house with them on, and didn’t mind posing for a few pictures either. This series really shows our boy’s personality.

Caught Mid-Sentence

This is one talkative little girl.

Sarah likes to talk. She enjoys interacting, laughing and cooing more than almost anything, with the exception, perhaps, of eating. Here she is having a particularly animated discussion with Daddy.

Only One Crying

Hint: her big sister is giving her a squeeze.

We try to get a picture of the entire family once in a while. On this particular day, all but one of our children was ready to be photographed. It was just after church on a Sunday afternoon and she was hungry! Oh well…five out of six ain’t bad.

Musician at Rest

She has a firm grip on her instrument

Some friends recently handed down a toy keyboard from their kids to ours. It has become the most popular toy in the house. Elisabeth almost never puts it down and even fell asleep with it in her clutches a few days ago.

Warm Alaska Day

Bundled and ready to go!

Warm weather has been the order of the day in Fairbanks for most of this winter. Yes, we have had our -40 days, but while the Lower 48 was freezing, we were usually above normal. Here are the kids enjoying a warm, outside-day recently. Oh yeah…it was about 18 degrees.

Ray of Sunshine

Outside on a sunny Fairbanks day.

Elisabeth and Daddy had some errands to run the other day, so we headed out on a sunny, late-Winter day. We have been enjoying much longer days with lots of sunshine over the past few weeks. Temperatures have reached 30 or more several times, which is pretty unusual for this time of year.

Her First Smile

Our beautiful one-month old.

Well…it’s not actually her first smile, but it is the first we have been able to capture with a camera. Sarah is becoming a very talkative little girl. Here she is on the day she turned one-month old having some talk-time with daddy just before bed.
